The Welch House was exactly what I needed for vacation. Our room was clean and cheerful; classy without pretension. Breakfast was in a room off the central house with full windows and on a deck overlooking the harbor. Susan served us the best breakfast I'd ever had, and Michael recommended places to see and eat. It is also the small details that made the stay worth it. The housekeepers arranged our favorite blanket across the bed just like I love at home. I didn't bring my book but that was just fine. There were bookcases full to read in the common living room. With Susan and Michael's suggestions, lodging and hospitality, we had a marvelous stay.

Welch House is a gem. Michael greeted us very warmly, showed us our room right away, and gave great recommendations for dining in town. The view is outstanding from their common room + deck -- even in the pouring rain it was lovely, with a fire going to keep us warm and dry. I only wish that we could have stayed longer--their breakfast creations were amazing (rhubarb coffee cake and crab quiche)! Also a big thumbs up for pet friendliness with a reasonable fee--most places in town charge exorbitant pet fees but the WH's rate was very reasonable :) We will definitely be back here next time we're in Boothbay!

The location was perfect - The Audubon society along with a local boat company offers a trip to view the Puffins and other local birds, so we decided to stay at the Welch House Inn. It took under five minutes to walk to the wharf! Wandering around for dinner and some shopping was easy and fun. Great breakfast - We told Michael our plans when we booked our room and he made sure that we had breakfast before we had to leave for the morning boat ride. There was lots of fresh fruit, granola (homemade), cereal, coffee, and a fresh warm apple frittata made by Susan ... since I was on a special diet I asked her for the recipe to enter into my food app. No problem! It was healthy and delicious! Oh, the coffee was fabulous! This is a big Inn and each room Michael showed us was different ... we had a young child in our group, so we stayed in a wing that was off to the side and not likely to bother other people, just in case she got fussy. I thought that was very kind and made us feel comfortable. I understand that there are some rooms for pet parents also. The rooms are cozy and well appointed. Nothing fancy, just nice. I was amazed that someone complained about the smallish tv. Why would anyone travel to such a quaint seaside location to watch tv? Really?! This is a harbor town that looks and smells like the ocean ... just wonderful! Spending some time on the deck overlooking the harbor was very relaxing. I wish we had been able to stay longer!

We've stayed here twice now, and the location has been perfect for us. A quick walk down the (steep!) hill brings you right downtown to explore the shops and restaurants, and you can feasibly park your car at the inn for your entire stay and walk everywhere. The harbor views from the inn's decks are fantastic, and we've lingered over coffee and wine on both of them (don't forget to check out the 3rd floor deck!). Our stays have always been comfortable, quiet, and relaxing. The creaky stairs/hallway and the decor style of the inn is like staying at a beloved relative's house - and I mean that in a good way. It's cozy and homey; there's no modern, beachy vibe here, but rather one that nods to historic Boothbay Harbor days. We've stayed both times in the Captain's Lady room on the second floor - it's got a comfy king bed, a small, clean bathroom, and really great harbor views. It was ultra hot and humid when we were there, but the air conditioner in the room kept it cool enough. The common area is cozy, and though we have always had other plans for breakfast, we've always enjoyed the self-serve coffee, granola, fresh fruit, and pastries that are set out there before heading out for the day. Michael is very knowledgeable about the area and a great person to ask for ideas and opinions on where to go and what to do.

Did a last minute stay at the Welch House... Friendly hosts, small room with a small TV, small ensuite bathroom, great views from the deck, very spotty wireless. I would not have decided to stay in that particular room if it weren't for my last minute arrival (literally - walking in and asking if there was a room, many B&B's were full at the time). I had to leave early (7:00amish) and couldn't get breakfast, which kind of bummed me out...

Although the location of The Welch House Inn was perfect, I was not impressed by The Welch House Inn. For $150 a night our stay was less than remarkable- our room was tiny and smelled musty; our bathroom was much smaller than my New York City apartment's bathroom and it looked like it had not been scrubbed in months, and their were tons of bugs inside of the room. I woke up in my sleep to find a huge beetle in my hair. Additionally the main lobby area although quaint feels like the owners just placed junk around the room- I mean they have dusty old VHS movies on their book shelfs. Compared to other B&B's that I have stayed in, The Welch House Inn felt as if it was some un-orderly person's house that had hoarding tendencies. The Welch House Inn does boast two wonderful patios that are possibly the hotels best asset. These decks overlook the harbor and make for great sunset watching. Although in the evening it is difficult to sit on them past dusk as their are tons of bugs everywhere. In terms of breakfast, I was completely unimpressed. The owners never addressed food preferences or allergies and when I told them I was a vegetarian the owner responded "We spent all morning since 6am cooking and no we can not make you something else". It was a complete turn-off and a complete sign of disrespect. Additionally, the breads and other pastries were store bought and not home made - home made pastries is the best part of B&Bs. Completely underwhelmed. Although the Inn possesses great potential, the owners lack of attention to their customers' needs and their lack of attention to detail make this Inn a place I would never come back to. The owner's do not take pride in their B&B which is essential to a wonderful and enjoyable B&B experience. Tip: Avoid this Inn and stay somewhere where you can feel more comfortable as a guest!

My wife and I have visited here twice, returning today from our most recent trip, and the experience has been wonderful both times. The Inn sits atop the highest hill on the downtown side of the harbor, and the views are as good as they get. We stayed on the garden side of the Inn this time, on the second floor, and enjoyed the in-suite bathroom with whirlpool tub. The room we stayed in our first time here had a separate bathroom down the hall. However, the trade-off with having the extra amenities this time is that the views were not as good as they are on the other side of the house. Still, there are second and third floor decks that overlook the harbor on which you can sit and enjoy the views for as long as you like. There were only a few guests the two days we were there, so we never felt cramped. The best part of our stay was the breakfast - the food was spectacular. The Innkeeper makes his own granola and fresh muffins, and also made Bananas Foster French Toast and Eggs Benedict on successive days that were out of this world. What a great way to start our days! This is a great home base from which we've enjoyed relaxing and exploring the Harbor and surrounding areas. I highly recommend if you're looking to do the same!

We wandered into Boothbay Harbor on a whim, with no reservation. This B&B stood out with it's great verandas and obvious harbour views. Rooms were available (unusual for summer) and we booked a 3rd floor room with a fantastic view. The innkeeper was wonderful and the room charming. The lack of ensuite bathroom did not phase us, because our bathroom was private, just not connected to the room like you often find in Europe. We actually "partied" in Boothbay, ate lobster until we were exploding and even caught a local band at a seaside pub. Stumbling back to our room in the drizzle was just part of the fun. They were nice enough to serve me breakfast at 9:28AM, right before breakfast concludes at 9:30AM. Boothbay Harbour and this Inn was what I had hoped to find in Maine. Great vistas, friendly people and that old wold charm you just do not find in Florida. I would strongly recommend this town and this B&B.
